Lenya is a CMS based on the XML publishing/application framework Cocoon from the Apache Software Foundation.
Hence it is totally based on XML, XSLT and other related open standards.
Lenya supports browser based inline WYSIWYG editors, such as Xopus, Bitflux and Epoz.

Authentication and Authorization Framework: Access Control policies are being matched per request. Possible subjects are user, group, IP-number and "world". LDAP authentication has also been integrated.

Multi-server deployment: Lenya can be deployed across multiple servers, with each server being assigned capabilities - for example one server could be set up for Authoring and one for live deployment of the published site.
